“we don’t photograph same sex weddings”

Ariel + Hilary Married1016.jpg

Six years ago, we were in the beginning stages of wedding planning, we had just gotten engaged + we’re so excited to plan the wedding of our dreams. We started reaching out to vendors + seeking out venues. Not once did we think about us being a same sex couple + the potential that we could get turned away because of it. To our surprise the photographer we had reached out to replied to our inquiry turning us away, “I’m sorry we do not photograph same sex weddings but you should reach out to Jessica Stout I believe she does same sex weddings. Good luck!” We were in shock. It took me everything not to spit off some nasty email back to her, to be honest I’m not even sure I responded because what would I even say?!

We decided to reach out to the photographer she suggested because we loved her work + saw that she had done a same sex wedding so we knew we wouldn’t be turned away. Jessica immediately wrote back and seemed so excited to work with us. We setup a time to meet and in that three-hour meeting we just knew it was the right fit for us.

Fast forward nearly five years later and Jess has now taken images of us in every stage of life – wedding, first anniversary, last vacay before baby, maternity, newborn carter, six-month carter, one year carter and the most recent, eighteen-month Carter. We really like photos haha.  Not only has she taken all of our most cherished images over the years, she has become one of our best friends. Looking back, it’s crazy to think that such a crappy, mean email turned into a beautiful friendship that we cherish so much.

Here are a few of our favorite photos that Jess has taken. If you’re in Florida or close to or are willing to pay a travel fee, I HIGHLY suggest booking Jessica and her team for your family photos, wedding photos, boudoir and even pet photos! She takes gorgeous images + will even sing baby shark while she takes them!

baby k’tan weekender bag

Since having Carter we’ve become very picky when it comes to choosing which bags we travel with.  It has to fit all of her things + some of mamas, fit underneath the seat of the airplane, keep her food cold and have a changing pad.

We found the Baby K’tan Weekender bag + haven’t looked back since. It met all of our requirements plus some!

The weekender bag has so many great amenities for parents of little’s like an easy access wipe dispenser, a padded nylon changing pad, and a full size insulated cooler packet! A big bonus for us is the padded tech pocket which makes it easy for us to travel with our laptops.

If you’re a mama that travels a lot like we do, this bag is a dream that you must try!

a night at the coast

We don't get over to the Oregon Coast as much as we'd like to because you know, life is busy. Fortunately for us we were all home this weekend + got the opportunity to head over to Pacific City to check out the absolutely gorgeous Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa.

We arrived at the hotel, checked in + went up to our room to get settled before heading over to Pelican Brewing. The room was a dream. Ariel + I both are pretty obsesed with modern decor and our room was filled with it. Our favorite part of the room was the view - the bathtub was a close second.

After a drink at Pelican + dinner at the Meridian - which was so delicious - we headed down to the beach for a bonfire + s'mores. I love a good bon fire + I love it even more when I don't have to set it up. The lodges adventure team came down, set up our fire, got it going + gave us our s'mores kit. This was a dream considering at this point in the night Carter just wanted to be snuggled + I wanted to take photos of everything so we had no free hands to set up a fire.

Unfortunately, right as we got comfortable in front of the fire, it started pouring down rain. Like the kind of rain you see in movies. I grabbed Carter + ran up to our room while poor Ariel grabbed all of our stuff and came up shortly after us. We ended the night with a bath + after Carter went down, Ariel + I sat in bed, drank red wine + ate Tillamook Ice Cream from the pantry.

The next morning we spent some time drinking coffee in our pajamas on the balcony + really just soaked up the views. Before heading back home we grabbed a bite to eat at the Meridian again - too good to only eat at once - and let Carter crawl around the hallways to burn some energy.

We had the best time on our little stay cation. The lodge is absolutely incredible + is so relaxing. The staff is hands down some of the best hotel staff that I've ever had. They were so accommodating + they all loved Carter. We didn't get a chance to go to the Spa this time but I know we'll be back soon to check it out.
