“we don’t photograph same sex weddings”

Ariel + Hilary Married1016.jpg

Six years ago, we were in the beginning stages of wedding planning, we had just gotten engaged + we’re so excited to plan the wedding of our dreams. We started reaching out to vendors + seeking out venues. Not once did we think about us being a same sex couple + the potential that we could get turned away because of it. To our surprise the photographer we had reached out to replied to our inquiry turning us away, “I’m sorry we do not photograph same sex weddings but you should reach out to Jessica Stout I believe she does same sex weddings. Good luck!” We were in shock. It took me everything not to spit off some nasty email back to her, to be honest I’m not even sure I responded because what would I even say?!

We decided to reach out to the photographer she suggested because we loved her work + saw that she had done a same sex wedding so we knew we wouldn’t be turned away. Jessica immediately wrote back and seemed so excited to work with us. We setup a time to meet and in that three-hour meeting we just knew it was the right fit for us.

Fast forward nearly five years later and Jess has now taken images of us in every stage of life – wedding, first anniversary, last vacay before baby, maternity, newborn carter, six-month carter, one year carter and the most recent, eighteen-month Carter. We really like photos haha.  Not only has she taken all of our most cherished images over the years, she has become one of our best friends. Looking back, it’s crazy to think that such a crappy, mean email turned into a beautiful friendship that we cherish so much.

Here are a few of our favorite photos that Jess has taken. If you’re in Florida or close to or are willing to pay a travel fee, I HIGHLY suggest booking Jessica and her team for your family photos, wedding photos, boudoir and even pet photos! She takes gorgeous images + will even sing baby shark while she takes them!

baby k’tan weekender bag

Since having Carter we’ve become very picky when it comes to choosing which bags we travel with.  It has to fit all of her things + some of mamas, fit underneath the seat of the airplane, keep her food cold and have a changing pad.

We found the Baby K’tan Weekender bag + haven’t looked back since. It met all of our requirements plus some!

The weekender bag has so many great amenities for parents of little’s like an easy access wipe dispenser, a padded nylon changing pad, and a full size insulated cooler packet! A big bonus for us is the padded tech pocket which makes it easy for us to travel with our laptops.

If you’re a mama that travels a lot like we do, this bag is a dream that you must try!

carters first birthday

The days leading up to Carters birthday were busy so we didn't have much time to stop and think about the fact that we were soon going to have a ONE year old! We decided for her first birthday we would have a party in California to celebrate.

When we were planning the party the first thing we established was that we wanted to hire vendors so that the decor, cake + food was taken care of. We were flying in from Disneyland the night before and really wouldn't have any time to put things together.

The theme that we went with was Carters Pink Paradise. When we took her to Hawaii for the first time she played her little heart out at the beach all day long, ate too much shave ice + really just fell in love with the island life so when choosing a theme we knew it had to be some kind of paradise party!

We filled the house with Hawaiian food from L &L Hawaiian BBQ, sweets from Paper Heart Patisserie, florals by Mignon Floral Co., signs by David and Leanna, enamel pins from Ways and Means/Studio Mega and topped it all off with shave ice from Kona.

Carter swam most of the day with family, ate some yummy food + then dug into her cake. She was a happy girl until it was nap time! We loved every part of the day + was so happy to celebrate our happy little bug with family + friends.
